Fadillah’s promotion to Works Minister is icing on the cake

KUCHING, May 15 — Datuk Fadillah Yusof had said that winning the Petra Jaya parliamentary seat in Sarawak for the third time would be the best 51st birthday gift for him.

He fulfilled that in the recently-concluded 13th general election and the icing on the cake came when he was named Works minister by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak who unveiled his new cabinet line-up in Putrajaya today.

Fadillah, who is Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) Youth chief, retained Petra Jaya with an impressive 21,443-vote majority against Ahmad Nazib Johari of Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) in the May 5, polls.

His performance was a vast improvement from the 14,397-vote majority garnered in the 2008 general election and 12,816-vote majority in 2004.

Fadillah was first appointed deputy Science, Technology and Innovation minister after the 2008 general election.

A lawyer by profession, he is married with five children.- BERNAMA
