Thieves escape with RM297,000 from ATM

ALOR SETAR, Feb 25 — Thieves dismantled a Maybank automated teller machine (ATM) in Jalan Kota here and escaped with RM297,000 early today.

A passer-by who discovered the break-in at 8.57am, informed the police.

A police team found that the closed-circuit televison (CCTV) cameras in the bank had been turned to face the wall. The bank does not have a security guard.

Kedah CID chief ACP Nashir Ya said, according to the bank authorities, the security alarm went off at 4.32am.

“We believe more than one person was involved in the break-in. We will also check on a similar break-in in Simpang Kuala to determine whether the same gang was involved,” he said. – BERNAMA
